| Five years after the album VANANDA, Andreas Georgiou gives us his new personal project, ASATE. His jazz composition forms become more open in "ASATE", ready to accept influences at times from the Greek tradition and at times from the Brazilian salsa. His compositions are more cohesive, the melody clearer and the jazz tone-color has intense worldly features.
Weber and Giannatou are his old and significant associates (we saw them in VANANDA as well). The new sound which is added to "ASATE" are the outstanding percussion instruments of Airto Moreira. It is worth hearing how Georgiou incorporates the special color of Moreira in his music, at times using it to set off what he himself has created, and at other times being influenced by it to give an unexpected version of the already existing composition.
Note especially tracks No. 2 and No. 4.
Track No. 7, the album title track, is exceptional, with the rhythm of tsamiko, a different tsamiko, with vocals and the instrument ney [Harris Labrakis] in leading role.
