Fourteen new songs by two contributors who hold a great place in Greek music. The composer, Christos Tsiamoulis is already known to the listeners of LIBRA MUSIC from his record ANESPERA , released in 2002. Here he meets one of the most significant female voices of Greece , Lizeta Kalimeri but also Manolis Lidakis who sang the songs of BAHAR of Makis Ablianitis.
It is difficult to place the record in a category. Here Tsiamoulis changes his style, he takes more folk routes with traditional Greek sounds such as the hassapikos and the zeimpekikos . He writes contemporary folk songs. But if we name the songs folk we are in danger of losing the riches of their sound. Through a magnificent orchestration, Tsiamoulis creates a musical landscape full of sounds. The songs are not one-level ones, they open up extending in both width and depth. Tsiamoulis' contact with the traditional Greek folk music along with his great musical background give him the ability to enhance the field of Greek folk music embellishing it with sounds from the nei, the clarinet, the lyre, the oud and the kanonaki. Behind the vocals there is a superb group of musicians that gives birth to Music. Unique Greek musicians such as Vavatsikas, Pappos, Sinopoulos, Sidirokastritis and Karypis meet three grand guests from Constaninople, Erkan Ogur, Halil Karaduman and Ercan Irmak, and they create fourteen songs that will leave their mark on Greek music.
The songs of "lonely land" are songs of the truth and of the soul, songs of sensitivity and intensities. Tsiamoulis is behind the music, Kalimeri sings and both of them write some of the lyrics together. Together is the key-word to unseal the record. The chemistry that was created by the relationship of these two creators has enclosed in it all the other contributors.
The subject-matter is love. The one, the great, the eternal theme. " There where the hearts of people and angels come together, there where the voices come together" , there where breaths come together. There where Tsiamoulis and Kalimeri come together to express everything they've experienced, everything they've felt, loved and believed in through the years. How can all this fit into one record? The same way a whole lifetime fits into the so short lifespan of a butterfly. The same way so much beauty fits into an era. The important thing is to be able to open your wings.
Kalimeri is earthly, mature, plain, dynamic, intense but also sensitive and above all warm. A voice that seems like it will fill the space up, around it and inside it. A voice that has found its sound, that has its feet firmly onto the ground and opens up. Manolis Lidakis, another great voice of the Greek music, is with her. The result is unique. " Love and death together " because " in the end that's life ", at its most beautiful manifestations.
