Dimitris Zervoudakis

If Greenway is the painter of the cinema, then Galiatsos in his new record becomes the director of music.

Scene One: The wizard enters the city. The music introduces us to the warm, lyrical scenery of the lost innocence of the city that surrounds us. Scene Two: the wizard sets the game of life.

The center around which the "game" is set is the relation between the male and the female. An intense relationship, full of passion. From the first scene to the last one the passion of love is spreading.

Seven songs and eight instrumental pieces constitute the wizard's scenery. Folk songs, traditional Greek songs (hassapika, zeimpekika), songs of the Near East , artistic songs. Four great voices are meeting in this record, the voices of Dimitris Zervoudakis, Melina Kana, Giota Nega and Maria Spyropoulou.

Galiatsos has created a record with music and songs that is hard to classify under the existing musical categories. 'The Wizard's Games' is not merely a folk record. Yet, it includes some of the most beautiful folk songs that can be written today. Poems of two of Greece 's most important poets, Kariotakis and Filiras, were set to music and included in the record. This musical setting is unexpected, modern and completely reconciled with the whole style of the record. Thus, the coexistence of these poems with Galiatsos' lyrics does not surprise us at all. Everything seems as if it has been written for the same purpose.

Perfect internal balance, unexpected plot, climax, a conclusion that calms us. A record that sets its unity in the internal relations of music and speech. A narration open to many readings, and to even more hearings.
