Savina Yiannatou

Born in Athens . She studied singing with G. Georgikopoulou and later with S. Sakka at the Workshop of Phonetic Art. She graduated from the faculty of "Performance and Communication Skills" of the London Guildhall School of Music and Drama with a Mousigeti scholarship. Her professional career began in 1979 with the program "Lilipoupoli Here" of the Third Program of ERT (Hellenic Radio and Television). Since then she has cooperated with many Greek composers (Platonos, Grigoriou, Markopoulos, Katsoulis, Mamagakis, Kypourgos, Georgiou) and her record collection includes about 30 records (personal and participations). For more than 10 years she was a member of the Workshop of Old Music, with which she has sung medieval, renaissance and baroque productions. She has participated in festivals and workshops of electronic and improvised music as a singer and composer. She has composed music for documentaries, video-art and theatre cooperating with S. Stago, M. Santorino and the National Theatre (1997) composing music for Medea of Euripides directed by N. Kountouris .

She has cooperated with the choreographer N. Zouka for the production of two dance theatre productions, "Music for A While" and "The Fairytales of the World". For about ten years she is occupied with free improvisation, in cooperation with musicians from the jazz scene. In the last few years she is cooperating with the group Primavera En Salonico with whom she has issued the records "Spring in Saloniki", "Songs of the Mediterranean ", "Madonnas of the world" and "Terra Nostra". With Primavera El Salonico she has given numerous concerts in Greece , participated in the most significant ethnic festivals abroad in Europe, America , Australia , Taiwan and Israel and was the first Greek woman who appeared in WOMAD (England-1996). The live record "Terra Nostra" will be available world wide in January 2003 from the record company ECM. Savina Yiannatou has performed on two recordings of LIBRA MUSIC, "Vananda" (LM016-2) and "Asate" (LM028-2) of the jazz composer / guitarist Andreas Georgiou. On these albums also performed the bassist of ECM Eberhard Weber and the Brazilian percussionist Airto Moreira.
